The Guide

Choosing the right FLX kit

1. Identify your plate and your state
Every state and territory issues to its own dimensions, and those dimensions have changed over the decades. A Victorian heritage plate, a NSW custom plate and a current Queensland issue are three different sizes. Start with which state issued it and roughly when.

2. Measure the plate itself
Measure overall width and height in millimetres, then measure centre-to-centre between the mounting holes. Older plates vary between production runs, so measure the plate in your hand rather than working from a published figure.

3. Apply the 10mm offset
FLX frames are built to a 10mm offset: the aperture sits 10mm proud of the plate edge on each side. Add 20mm to your measured width and height to arrive at the frame size you need.

4. Bracket or conversion kit
A bracket mounts a plate you already own. A conversion kit pairs a 1.6mm galvanised steel mounting plate with an extruded aluminium frame and a clear acrylic front panel, and fits to the existing factory mounting points on the vehicle.

FLX — Precision Built. Melbourne Made.
Yes. FLX ships Australia wide, and kits are made to suit plate formats from every state and territory. Select your state when ordering so the frame matches your plate dimensions.
Yes, and the differences are large enough that a frame cut for one state won't seat a plate from another. Sizes have also shifted over time within each state, so the year of issue matters as much as the state.
Terminology varies by state. In Victoria it refers to the original 1932–1939 numeric series, numbered 1 to 285,000, which is closed. Other states run their own historic and club-registration formats with different numbering and dimensions.
Yes for victoria, No for every other state. Signature is a styling term for the finish and frame treatment. It describes how the plate is presented, not the class of plate you hold.
It depends on the product. Brackets are machined aluminium. Conversion kits combine a 1.6mm galvanised steel mounting plate, an extruded aluminium frame and a clear acrylic front panel. Each product page lists the exact construction.
The kits mount to the existing factory mounting points. Where a vehicle uses a non-standard mounting pattern, check the fitment notes on the product page first.
