NSW Slimline Number Plates: Sizes, Fitment & Bracket Guide
FLX · The Plate Ledger

NSW was the first state in Australia to introduce slimline plates — and it still runs the most confusing sizing of any state, because front and rear aren't the same height. Get this wrong and your new bracket won't fit either one.

NSW Slimline Isn't One Size

Most people assume "slimline" means a single fixed dimension across the board. In NSW it doesn't:

  • Front slimline (SL1): 372mm (w) x 84mm (h)
  • Rear slimline: 372mm (w) x 107mm (h)

Same width, different height, front to back. If you've ordered a bracket or cover sized for one and tried to reuse it on the other end of the car, that's why it didn't sit right — it's not a manufacturing fault, it's two different plate heights on the same vehicle.

Slimline vs Standard vs Euro in NSW

  • Standard: 372mm x 134mm — full-height factory issue
  • Slimline (rear): 372mm x 107mm
  • Slimline (front): 372mm x 84mm
  • Euro style: 520mm x 110mm — wider format for European plate recesses

Slimline is the most popular upgrade in NSW because it sits noticeably closer to the bodyline than standard — but ordering the wrong height for the wrong end is the single most common mistake we see.

Why NSW Also Has "Dealer Slimline" Y-Plates

NSW dealers have issued their own slimline plates with dealership branding along the bottom since 2012 — a NSW-only quirk (the Y-series). If your car came from a dealer with branded plates and you're upgrading to a clean set, you're not just swapping plates, you're also losing that branded lower strip — worth knowing before you order, since some brackets are sized assuming that strip is there.

Mounting NSW Slimline Without Drilling

Slimline plates on factory bumpers often reveal old mounting holes sized for the taller standard plate — which is why a straight slimline swap without the right bracket leaves visible holes or an uneven sit. A CNC bracket re-aligns to your car's existing factory hole pattern instead of the plate's own edge holes, so:

  • No new holes in the bumper or plate
  • Correct height plate sits flush front and rear, even though they're different sizes
  • No leftover holes from a taller standard plate showing through

Which FLX Bracket Fits

Our NSW Front SL1 Slimline bracket is built to 372mm x 84mm specifically — not a generic slimline size. For the rear, our slimline rear cover and bracket combination is sized to the 107mm height, sold separately since the two ends genuinely differ.

Not sure which end you're measuring? Check our measurement guide before ordering — measuring the wrong end is the #1 return reason on slimline orders
